Christmas gifts for golfers at Cape Region pro shops and courses
December 12, 2003
There are twelve shopping days left until Christmas Eve. Here are some suggestions for Cape Region golfers and those looking to buy gifts for their favorite duffers.
At The Rookery Golf Club, head golf professional Butch Holtzclaw says “everything” is on sale. “We’ve got quite a bit of merchandise here,” he said, “and there are lots of deals on clubs.” In addition, golf shirts are marked down to $20 or $30, and golf bags are selling at 25% off. Holtzclaw also mentioned their NFL collection of golf balls and putters marked with the logos of the Ravens, Eagles, and Redskins. Gift certificates are available for lessons, tee times, and merchandise. Their shop is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m daily (684-3000).
John Schneider of Marsh Island Golf Club is offering discount prices on Square Two golf clubs, as well as sale prices on shirts, hats, and windbreakers. They also sell gift certificates for tee times and merchandise. The club shop is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (945-4653).
JoJo Barrows, mistress of all she surveys at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club pro shop, is having a special sale on Slazenger’s Raw Distance and Power Control golf balls. “We have some people who really like them,” she said, and for those folks it would be a good idea to buy a few dozen for next season. The shop opens at 9 a.m. daily (227-3616).
Rob Marshall, owner-operator of Old Landing Golf Course, is selling gift certificates for tee times and golf balls. Give him a call or stop by any day between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (227-3131).
At Baywood Greens, head professional Brian Barrows is running a special bargain bin sale on drivers from Orlimar, Calloway, and Ping. Fancy-styled golf shirts are also on sale at 20% off, and gift certificates are good for merchandise, tee times, and lessons. The shop is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (947-9800).
Ed Larkins and his gang at Clubhouse Golf have their Christmas sale well underway. “We’re running a close-out on Cobra fairway woods and drivers, and our line of Ashworth clothing is knocked down 20%,” Larkins said. Rain suits and windbreakers are also discounted 20%. Larkins said he has several pairs of golf shoes at “blowout” prices 60 to 70% off retail, with other golf shoes reduced by 15%.
Wedges and putters are being sold for $10 to $30 off their regular prices. Larkins also said they’re running reduced prices on Callaway Steelhead III clubs, as well as TaylorMade RAC irons in stock. Other iron sets are also on sale. Store hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday (227-3347).
Golf pro Devon Peterson at Shawnee Country Club is discounting many items in the club’s golf shop. Men’s and ladies’ fall/winter styles are 15% off, and there are sizeable discounts on in-stock golf clubs from Titleist and Callaway, as well as Odyssey putters. Golf bags and shoes are also marked down. Gift certificates for guest fees, merchandise, and lessons are available. The shop hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week, and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends (422-7210).
On December 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., golf pro Ty Mayers and his staff are having a Christmas sale at Kings Creek Country Club. Mayers said that they’ll be marking down “everything that we have,” including apparel and in stock golf clubs. They’ll also be open during daily normal hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in case you can’t be there for the special event.
Don’t forget to also check out what’s available at the other Cape Region golf courses, including Sussex Pines Country Club (856-3363), Bethany Bay Golf Course (539-3833), Heritage Inn & Golf (644-3860), and Bear Trap Dunes (537-5600).
