Christmas gift ideas for Cape Region golfers
December 7, 2007
There are 17 more shopping days until Christmas, and Hanukkah is already underway.
Therefore, right now would be a great time to make gift choices for Cape Region golfers, from several good shopping opportunities in the area.
Bret Marshall at Ruddo’s Golf, on Route One near Munchy Branch Road, highlighted several holiday sale items.
Men’s and women’s apparel are $29.99 and up, with golf shoes beginning at $39.99. Golf bags from several makers are twenty percent off the usual prices.
In addition, Marshall said Ruddo’s is offering “big discounts on clubs.” They also have gift certificates available.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Marshall said that about ten days from Christmas, they will extend evening hours by an extra hour or two (302-227-1520).
Ed Larkins and Joe Romano at Clubhouse Golf have their Holiday Sale underway. The popular golf store on Rehoboth Avenue Extended is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on most days (302-227-3347).
Romano said, “We have a lot of bags on sale. All of our wedges and putters are on sale, and all of our clothes, such as windbreakers and shirts, are also on sale. We have selected iron sets marked down, including sets by Nike, Mizuno, Callaway, and TaylorMade. We also have hybrids on sale. They are the Adams Pro Series, Callaway X’s, and the Tour Edge.”
Mike Connor of The Rookery Golf Course near Milton noted a wide assortment of golf gift items.
Brand name drivers are on sale starting at $75, both new and used. New and used brand name fairway woods are offered at $50 and up.
Adidas and Cutter & Buck short sleeve shirts carry sale prices between $25 and $55.
Connor says their hybrid clubs are all 25%, and in-stock iron sets are now reduced 20 percent. They are also offering a Nike Sumo Squared Driver Blow Out sale, at $199.99.
The Rookery’s shop (302-684-3000) is open from 8 to 5 every day.
Tony Hollerback, the head golf pro at Baywood Greens near Millsboro, said his pro shop has “a lot of drivers, wedges, and hybrids for sale, ” with club lines from Mizuno and others.
Pro shops such as Baywood do well with logo merchandise, despite apparel competition from outlet malls and other clothing stores in the Cape Region. In part that’s because the logo’d items are nice souvenirs. Sometimes folks forgot to buy them when they played there originally, however, so several lines are now on sale.
Among men’s offerings, they carry Adidas, Cutter & Buck, Nick Price, and Page & Tuttle. In the women’s lines, Baywood offers clothes from Izod, Cutter & Buck, Sport Haley, and E.P. Pro.
Hollerback also said he’s running a club regripping special. With a minimum of twelve clubs redone, the putter grip is replaced for free.
The store is open from 9 to 5 p.m. (302-947-9800).
Cape Region private club pro shops are also open for Christmas sales, and not just for their members. Shawnee Country Club is holding a Christmas Sale from December 7 through 9. All in-stock drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids are $40 off. All bags are $15 off, with shoes discounted 25 percent and clothes at 15 percent off. The golf shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. December 7, with closing at 5 p.m. on the other days (302-422-7010).
Ron Barrows at Rehoboth Beach Country Club has a club sale going on, and offers Titleist Pro-V golf balls at $44.95 per dozen. In addition, logo clothing is discounted at 20% off. The pro shop at the end of East Side Drive is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (302-227-3616).
Kevin Wiest at Kings Creek Country Club said they’re holding a Holiday party for members on Saturday, December 8 (302-227-8953). The pro shop is open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the event. Members can make their selections, and then pick from a special box with discount cards, most at 25% to 50% off. One lucky member could pick the single discount card set at 100%.
Free is good.
