September 23, 2016
The George Simpson Men’s Group of Epworth United Methodist Church is holding its 4th Annual Golf Outing–Drive Away Hunger Oct. 1, at the American Classic Golf Club, on Postal Lane in Midway.
The event supports three local programs that feed the hungry in the Cape Region: The Epworth Food and Love Soup Kitchen, The Good Samaritan Emergency Food Program at Epworth, and the Immanuel Shelter. Their combined efforts in 2015 provided thousands of meals, household goods and personal hygiene items, and shelter for homeless individuals over the winter season.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., with play starting at 9:30 a.m. The $50 fee for walking ($60 for riding) includes 9 holes of golf, lunch, and prizes.

DSGA Scholarship Fund Tournament at Rehoboth Beach Country Club Oct. 3
This year’s Delaware State Golf Association Scholarship Fund Tournament takes place Oct. 3 at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
This is the major source of funds for a very successful scholarship program, awarding three or four deserving high school seniors with grade-dependent four-year stipends. A committee selects scholarship candidates based on applications demonstrating academic excellence, community spirit, and a connection to golf.
The tournament format is best one ball of four, net. Players without USGA handicaps will have their handicaps determined using a modified Callaway scoring system.
The day starts with lunch at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The entry fee of $160 for singles and $600 for a foursome includes the lunch, a cocktail hour with hors d’oueuvres, tournament prizes, and a silent auction following play.
