Christmas gifts for golfers at Cape Region pro shops and golf courses
December 13, 2002
There are only twelve shopping days left until Christmas. Here are some suggestions for Cape Region golfers and those looking to buy gifts for their favorite duffers.
Head Golf Professional Ty Mayers announced that Kings Creek Country Club will hold a special Christmas sale on December 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. “There’ll be all kinds of special discounts on clubs, balls, and apparel,” Mayers said. If you miss the fun on the 21st, they’ll be open normally from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (227-8953*).
At Bear Trap Dunes near Ocean View (537-5600), Neil Maurer said their Twelve Days of Christmas Sale starts today. Everything in the shop starts off at 30% off, with an additional 1% added to the discount every day until Christmas Eve (42% maximum). Gift buyers can also obtain a special Bear Trap card that’s good for tee times, merchandise, or meals at the club’s restaurant. The pro shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shawnee Country Club golf pro Devon Peterson is discounting many items at the Club’s golf shop. Menswear is now 20% off, and most clubs and shoes are running at 30% discounts. There’s great stuff for junior golfers from the U.S. Kids line, at 20% off. Peterson also said, “Gift certificates are available, for merchandise and lessons.” The shop will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (422-7010).
At The Rookery, club professional Mike Connor said “We’ve got a bunch of stuff on sale.” Most men’s shirts are 30% off, with outerwear discounted at 20% the normal prices. Ladies’ wear is also 30% off. At the sales table, some shirts are as low as $20, with Tommy Bahama shirts as low as $25.
Connor said that selected wedges and putters are 20% off. In addition, they’re selling the Calloway C4 Driver for $325, reduced from the usual $499 price tag. Those who buy an Orlimar HipTi driver will obtain a HipSteel fairway wood free, a $250 value. The shop’s merchandise includes many logo items, and their gift certificates are also good for lessons, tee times, and merchandise. Their shop is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (684-3000).
Ed Larkin and the gang at Clubhouse Golf, just outside Rehoboth Beach, are busy with holiday sales. Taylor Made 200 and 300 Series irons are $100 off, in both men’s and women’s sets. Golfers looking for a little magic with Lady Precept Balls can buy them for only $19.99 a dozen. Slazenger menswear is 20%, and ladies’ Antigua clothing is also discounted 20%. Forrester wind shirts for men and women are 15% off normal retail. In addition, anyone buying a set of Cleveland TA5 irons will be given a free Cleveland Stand Bag. Other men’s and women’s golf bags are $10 to $20 off. Store hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday (227-3347).
Head Professional Ron Barrows at Rehoboth Beach Country Club said he’s running a sale on golf balls. For example, a dozen Strata Tour Ultimates, previously sold for $50, are now $41.95. In addition, a dozen Calloway Hex balls are now $42, down from the usual $52. The pro shop opens daily at 9 a.m. (227-3616).
Brian Barrows, the golf professional at Baywood Greens, the Long Neck area public course, is happy to accommodate Cape Region golfers looking for bargains. For example, they’re selling Titleist NXT golf balls for only $25 per dozen. Their shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and they’ll gladly sell gift certificates for tee times throughout the year (947-9800).
Don’t forget to also check out the available items at the other Cape Region golf courses, including Old Landing Golf Course (227-3131), Angola’s Marsh Island Golf Course (945-4653), Heritage Inn & Golf at Midway (644-3860), Georgetown’s Sussex Pines Country Club (856-3363), and Bethany Bay Golf Course near Ocean View (539-3833).
With all these options, there should be no problem finding a great gift.
