American Classic Golf Club and other Cape Region golf courses are busy with holiday sales
There is still time to find something nice for golf-loving friends and family members among the Cape Region’s golf courses and other golf options.
American Classic Golf Club
American Classic is a well-run nine-hole course near Midway, with a relaxed atmosphere the Morrison family created when they bought the place several years ago.
Head golf pro Austin Ebersole said the club’s post-Thanksgiving Black Friday sale was a big success, and they are not done selling for the holidays. From Dec. 20 through Dec. 23, each $50 gift certificate earns an additional $10 credit for the purchaser’s club account. Ebersole also said they have a wide selection of stocking stuffers such as golf balls and other small items.

Steve Smith PGA
Local PGA golf professional Steve Smith is taking reservations for lessons at his Swing Suite at 37156 Rehoboth Avenue, site of the former 365 Golf next to the Verizon store.
Smith said he follows COVID-19 protocols with a thorough spraying down of the suite before and after each student’s lesson and has had no problems.

Stenger’s Shamrock Farms Par 3
Bob and Wendy Stenger’s little par 3 layout on Saw Mill Road west of Milton is open year round. Greens fees are $15 and pull cart rentals are only a dollar on this easy-walking course.

Midway Par 3
Barbara Moore says her family-owned golf course, a longtime Cape Region favorite for locals and tourists, has been enjoying a busy fall season. She also said their gift certificate program is also doing very nicely for the holiday sales season.

The Rookery
Rookery Director of Golf Butch Holtzclaw and Rookery North head pro Kyle Deas are selling half-hour stocking stuffer golf lessons for $40. Deas will be moving to the South course when the North course closes after Dec. 31, so availability is not an issue.
Deas said his North pro shop is selling Rookery logo’d shirts at 50% off, with the same discount for golf shoes.
At the South course shop Holtzclaw is holding a blowout sale on in-stock Mizuno golf club sets, from $500 to well below the $1,400 suggested retail on the higher-end models. Golf bags are also on sale at 25% off. Gift certificates are also available.

Hooper’s Landing
Hooper’s Landing offers public golf in western Sussex County at reasonable prices. Cape Henlopen High alum Mike Connor is the head golf pro.

Head golf pro Anthony Hollerbeck said that this “exclusively public” golf course near Millsboro experienced a “crazy amount of business” recently, which is always a good thing.
With a whole new line-up of equipment coming in January, such as the new Titleist golf balls, Baywood’s pro shop is running down its current inventory. You can still find fun stuff, however.

Club Champion
The pandemic hit this national golf club fitting chain hard earlier this year, but it is bouncing back with a few special offers.
Fittings that are booked and completed from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31 come with a 50% discount on the fitting fee, if $500 worth of equipment is purchased. Putter fittings also come with a similar 50% discount for the service fee with no price minimum on the putter purchase.
