Cyclonic Golf moves for success
Recently I drove by the Henlopen Junction shopping center outside Rehoboth Beach. The “For Lease” banner in the window of the headquarters of Cyclonic Footwear, the new golf shoe company, gave me pause for concern. I don’t usually consider those signs to be a positive business signal.
Thankfully, I had it all wrong.
“It’s an exciting time at our company,” said local head Munir Mashooqullah recently. “We outgrew our space and needed to find a bigger location to handle our growth.”
This week Cylconic is moving from its original offices at Henlopen Junction to a larger facility on Schley Avenue in Lewes, near City Hall.
In February the company launched a new street shoe line at the Las Vegas Shoe Show. The outsize soles that are a design feature of all Cyclonic shoes are an integral part of their new offerings. A small alteration in the sole at the heel is the only noticeable change from the golf shoes that are the mainstay of the successful business.
Lisa Ruschman, a staffer at Cyclonic, reports they are selling to retailers in 16 states, and achieved bulk distribution in Japan, Thailand, South Africa, Sweden, Canada, and The Netherlands.
Mashooqullah also said they now have 6 employees at their Cape Region office and 15 sales reps. Ruschman says that MR Magazine called Cyclonic “the most comfortable shoe known to man” in their Millenium issue. Teaching pros at several clubs, such as Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, are wearing Cyclonic shoes every day.
Give the Cyclonic gang a day or two to finish their move, and then give them a call at 644-7001 to wish them good luck. You can also read more about them at their web site, www.cyclonicgolf.com.
Ritthaler hits hole-in-one–that’s Tricia Ritthaler, by the way
Tricia Ritthaler of Lewes celebrated the purchase of a new golf club in the best way possible. She made a hole-in-one the first day she tried it.
Ritthaler helps run the family business at Herring Creek Builders. She and her husband Ron shopped at Golf Day on March 7 and bought a new 3 wood. Since she wanted to use it right away, the couple drove directly to The Golf Park at Rehoboth and began a round.
On the 10th hole, Ritthaler played from the men’s tee and made the shot on one bounce from 144 yards out.
“Ron and I just stood there watching in amazement. We were both pretty shocked,” Ritthaler reported. “I feel like I earned a little bragging rights. I have since learned it is probably something I will never do again.”
Don’t be so sure.
Cape rolls over Indian River
The Cape golf team continued its early season success on March 30 against Indian River High School. They won handily at Rehoboth Beach Country Club by 152-186.
Tyler Witman led all scorers with a one-under 35. J.J. Oakley calmed down from his March 28 first-match jitters with a nice 39. Mark Johnson and Beau Marr also shot 39 for the team total. Josh Marr shot a 42 and Adam Talley scored a 46 on the sunny but windy afternoon.
For Indian River, Ryan Picard led his squad with a 43. The Indian scorers also included Joe Macaluso (43), Sky Adams (50), and Brian Downey (51). Craig Oliver’s 54 and Colin Scott’s 58 did not count.
The two school’s JV squads also played their exhibition match at The Golf Park at Rehoboth on March 30. It was obvious that both sets of kids really enjoyed the rare chance to compete.
