Zingaro eagles at Rookery South

Joe Zingaro is proof that good things can happen to good people.
The affable and highly rated clinical psychologist at Peoples Place II Counseling Center in Milford is also an avid golfer. He enjoyed an extremely rare eagle Aug. 31 at Rookery South.
His tee shot on the 362-yard par-4 eighth hole split the fairway, and he had 137 yards out for a short iron approach. The ball bounced twice on the green and rolled straight into the cup for an easy 2 net 1 for our gangs’ regular Sunday best two balls net wager.
Joe Zingaro made a great eagle on the par-4 8th hole August 31, at The Rookery South.
He was on my team, and I saw him do it, I hasten to add.
After the fist bumps and photos, it was on to the ninth hole, where Jim and Lisa Hutchins and I quietly but anxiously awaited Zingaro’s tee shot on the short par-3 hole.
That’s because in our gang, nearly any birdie or similarly pleasant result can be immediately followed by what we call a PBFU (Post-Birdie Foul-Up—this is a family-friendly newspaper). In Zingaro’s case, we didn’t want to jinx him into a PEFU.
It almost happened. Zingaro’s tee shot bounded across the green and into the rough beyond. Fortunately, he was able to score a routine bogey, and the danger passed.
Zingaro’s good play continued toward a very pleasant 82 total.
Vosters completes first round of LPGA Qualifying Tournament
Christina Vosters, a 2010 recipient of a Bob McCurry DSGA Scholarship Award for her years at Penn State, successfully completed the first round of the 2014 LPGA Qualifying Tournament.
The Bethany Beach resident competed at the Mission Hills Country Club, McCurry’s California home course. Vosters now moves on to the second round in Florida.

Kings Creek CC holds Club Championship Weekend Aug. 16-17
Kings Creek Country Club announced the winners of its 2014 Club Championship Golf Tournaments, held Aug. 16-17 on 36 holes with 83 participants.
Blake Micholas is this year’s Men’s Gross Club Champion, thanks to his two-day total of 145. Andrew Barth finished second at 149.
Diane Herndon won the Ladies Gross Club Championship with her score of 156. Stephanie Herndon came in second with her 161.
Jenifer Flinchbaugh won the Ladies Net Club category with her 146, while Drew Romans shot a net 144 for his Men’s Net Club victory.
Leslie Ledogar finished second for the Ladies with her 149, and Steve Adkins took second for the Men at 146. Stan Zabytko won the Senior Gross category with his 146, followed by Bill Manning in second with a 169.
Anita Pettitt’s 172 earned her first place in Ladies Senior Gross, with Judy Wetzel’s 174 taking second. John Purple Sr. won the Men’s Senior Net Championship in a one-hole playoff against Pete Jones, after they scored a pair of 139s.
Ana Dittel finished first in the Ladies Senior Net category with her 143, followed by Kathy Casey in second with her 152. Bob Minutella shot a 161 for first place in the Men’s Super-Senior category (65 and over), with Gary Barth taking second with his 165.
Dave Nave shot a net 137 for first place in the Men’s Super-Senior group, with Nick DelCampo in second with his 137.

Local club competition results
The Kings Creek Country Club Ladies 18 Hole Golf League played Low Net Aug. 25. Barbara Hines won first place in the first flight, with Jeannine Doane taking second and Cory Warther in third.
Denise Stewart took first in the second flight, with Prabhat Karapurkar in second and Leslie Ledogar in third. Pattie Magee won the third flight, followed by Monica Flieshman in second and Carolyn Ortwein in third.
